The semi-serious competition is the result of a bit of good-natured rivalry among local fishermen.
Two prizes are on offer for the rod and line contest, for the largest fish of any type and for the largest bass.
The competition runs until the half-term holiday in October and contestants must launch their boats from Hope Cove. Another villager must also witness the fish being caught.
It is being organised by Adrian Masters and more information can be obtained from Hope Cove Post Office.
Last year Doug Smith won the prize for the largest bass (2lb 10oz) while Justin Harmer caught the biggest fish overall, a 9lb dogfish.
