The only semi-serious competition is the result of a bit of good-natured rivalry among local fishermen.
Two prizes were on offer for the rod and line contest, for the largest fish of any type and for the largest bass. Doug Smith won the prize for the largest bass (2lb 10oz) while Justin Harmer caught the biggest fish overall, a 9lb dogfish.
The competition ran until the half-term holiday in October with rules stipulating that contestants had to launch their boats from Hope Cove and another villager had to witness the fish being caught.
It was organised by Adrian Masters and information on next year's event can be obtained from Hope Cove Post Office.
