People from the Kingsbridge and Salcombe Circuit were joined by holiday-makers for the special service at the church following its £60,000 refurbishment project.
The church had been closed since December 5 while builders were carrying out vital repair work and installing new disabled facilities.
Worshippers have been meeting in various locations, ranging from Galmpton Parish Church to Kingsbridge Methodist Church.
As part of the project the main church has been replastered and rewired, windows have been repaired, and the exterior has been repointed and painted.
In time when the concrete floor dries out, a floor covering for the new kitchen and toilet for disabled people will be fitted.
Rev John Kendall said: "A creative reshaping of the old pulpit has opened up extra space and although a carpet for the sanctuary area remains to be done many remarked on how well it all looked.
"A date for the rededication of the chapel has yet to be decided and we will ensure all our friends know when that is to be. We look forward to many more years of worship and other activities in Hope Cove."
